         June 20th through June 29th, 2008

Our longest running show… the Garden Art Show enters its eleventh year!  Always featuring original art “for, from, and about the garden”… this year’s show promises to showcase greater offerings of individual artists from near and far.  Glass is always a favorite… and we are seeing some fabulous pottery pieces too!!  And we are really on the hunt for some fun sculpture just now…  Who knows what we’ll find??!!

The info below is still last years information, although, the dates above are correct!!

This year's show has definitely.....

       gone to the birds............

This year, we will be showcasing two favorites.......

Our own Margery Gilbertson, Jeffri's dear friend, constant companion, fellow glazer, and Girl Friday, has definitely been a mainstay here for the past 5 years. Margery has really been on a roll with her birds, each one more tantalizing than the last, and in her puritan tradition, rarely ever are there two alike!  She promises a huge collection for the opening!  For more about Margery and her pots, click here.

Marlene Dusbiber has been a professional carver since 1985. Marlene, her husband, John, also an accomplished carver, two daughters, horses, dogs and cats live in a reproduction post and beam saltbox and barn outside the village of Chelsea, Michigan. Their home features a collection of antiques, reproduction furniture, (some built by John) and red ware pottery. Marlene's hooked rugs adorn wood plank floors.

Marlene carves her figures in a classic 'folk style', each is then hand painted and "finished" incorporating a fair bit of whimsy to offset a.  Her birds are a particular favorite of Jeffri's and many adorn our dining room table.  More photos of Marlene's carvings coming soon!

BAMBOO IN THE VALLEY

Each year, we strive to make the Garden Art Show at Crow Valley Pottery just a little bit different than the one before.  As this is our ‘opening’ show each season… we really like to have new and different offerings each June!  And this year, we feature a true local treasure… yet little known on Orcas.  This would be Wild Bird Bamboo Farm from San Juan Island!  Owners John Stamey and Lenore Bayuk grow a premier selection of prized bamboo and special grasses at their Friday Harbor farm. With over 55 species of bamboo propagated at the farm, it seems sad that so few Orcas folks get to see it, or even know about it.  Well, we’ll just fix that, won’t we…

Wild Bird Bamboo Farm will be carefully packing their collection… and joining Crow Valley for our 2007 Garden Art Show (our 10th!!).  The farm… situated on it’s 5 beautiful acres just outside of the town of Friday Harbor… has evolved into a very special setting to just quietly wander and enjoy the extensive and unusual varieties of bamboos and ornamental grasses.  The couple has also created fabulous show beds along their pond’s edges, each connected by wonderful cedar bridges and bordered by stone terraces which define the woods that surround the farm.

We are very excited that John and Lenore will be showing some of their very favorite varieties of bamboo and grasses at our show… and some very unusual ones to be sure!!  And the couple will be with us for the show’s opening weekend to talk to folks about their prized plants, their proper care, and to pretty much answer any other questions folks my have.  Oh… You can have a sneak peek by viewing their web site as: www.wildbirdbamboo.com  See you then!

June 14th - We just finished framing a sweet little collection of engravings, beautiful Leighton's, great insects and moths and a nice grouping of botanicals...................

Jeffri's October trip to England has netted a great collection of Clare Leighton's woodcuts and a few Curtis' Botanicals, and a "Bolton" bird or two.  Meanwhile Michael scored some fabulous engravings in Saint Petersburg.  Of course, we'll continue to look for more treasures right up till the 11th hour.  Click here to see more of Clare's woodcuts.

Additionally, will be an absolute plethora of art for the garden as well art inspired by the garden.  UPDATE 1/26/07:  WOW!!!  We have stumbled upon a fabulous potter tucked into the rolling green mountains of Vermont, Nancy Burroughs, and she will be debuting at the Garden Show.  Very fun, and playful works with inspiration that is straight from the garden!  We can hardly wait to hold them in our hot little hands!

We hope we'll see you at our “welcome back summer” party… Friday, June 22nd.  The show will hang through July 1st.
