October 16th..............As I sit here aboard the Elwha updating this page, Michael is plying the markets of Tianjin in search of treasures for this show.  This trip has uncovered a young woman whose "folk" paintings are exceptionally sweet and poignant, as well as a plethora of fabulous stone, the hardest part being which to offer up for June's garden Show and which to save for this very special event.

"Words", just in from Michael "on the road" -

I must confess… I was quite surprised by the wonderful reception and success of the Russian Bloc Party we did last year at the Gallery in Eastsound.  Frankly, it was a bit of an experiment and a risk as well.  Well… the interest in Russian art is at an all-time high, and our new Gallery in Eastsound has turned out to be the perfect venue for the more diverse collections we assemble.  And so it is that we will continue and evolve this new tradition of more ‘international’ shows at the gallery.  Indeed, I am on a flight as I write this, returning to Orcas from Asia!  And a successful hunt it was… as I am laden with nearly 40 paintings from China alone! 

As I traveled the markets of Tianjin… I discovered that the well known and frankly, quite popular, ‘Farmer’s Art’ that we like so much-- is from this region!  And I also discovered some great little galleries that as well offered more traditional original Folk Art like we usually find in Beijing.  So a good haul indeed!  Yes, our friends YuPing and Chen Feng will of course be offering a special collection of works at this show too!  We’ll for sure augment the paintings with some unusual Asian Antiques and furnishings… just to keep it interesting!  And what about an Asian “Antiques Roadshow”… with history, information and appraisals by a noted Asian antiques expert!

Our ‘Gallery Shows’ run for the month… so be sure to plan to visit.  And we’ll of course invite Christina’s and Jenny at Darvill’s Bookstore to share in the culture, with creative offerings of their own!  Toss in some food, drinks and music, and you know why we love our shows so much!

YuPing and ChenFeng are busy building a new collection of offerings. with promise of more smaller pieces that will be perfect for those of us with limited spaces left in our "nests".  More about them and their paintings here.

Souring the bookshops of Tokyo and London netted some unusual woodblock prints, another trip planned for spring to do some fine tuning of the offerings.  If there is a particular genre that you are i search of please be sure to let us know, we're always happy to search for "specifics".
